Pupose
The Tukwila Children's Foundation held it's first Annual Meeting in March 2002. At this meeting, the Executive Committee and Board of Directors were elected. Over the course of one year, the Foundation was able to help children and families in the city of Tukwila in the following ways:
- Provided funding for Tukwila Elementary School Kindergarten Cadre to assemble literacy kits for children and families
- Provided emergency funds for Cascade View, Thorndyke and Tukwila Elementary Schools to be used for immediate needs of students for past two years
- Provided funds for city of Tukwila "Community Chest" program (funds to be used by police and fire) for past two years
- Provided funds to purchase books for Zero Hour Tutoring Program at Tukwila Elementary School put on by the First Grade Cadre
- Provided funds to purchase books for the Tukwila Elementary School Read-A-Thon program
- Provided funds for the Thorndyke Elementary School Literacy program
- Provided funds for Wild & Scenic Institute to be used for outdoor learning projects for Tukwila children
- Provided back up funding for Tukwila School District Summer School Program
- Provided funds for Thorndyke Elementary School to purchase books for their Literacy Night
- Provided partial scholarships for ten Showalter Middle School students to participate in the Ikawa-Tukwila Sister City trip to Japan
- Approved seed money for a collaborative effort between the Tukwila School
- District's Even Start Program and King County Library system to provide literacy kits to participating families
- Provided funds for SwissDisks and Handiwriters for Tukwila Elementary School
- Provide scholarship funds for Tukwila Parks & Recreation Summer Program
- Provided funds for math/literacy project for Showalter Middle School
- Provided funding for Tukwila Youth Soccer League
- Provided funds for transportation for Tukwila Community Schools Collaboration's After School Programs
- Provided seed funds for PATHS to a Violence Free Community Project for Renton Area Youth & Family Services
- Provided funds to send students from Cascade View Elementary School to state Choir Competition
- Provided funds for Foster High School Band students to attend National Band Competition in California
- Provided funds to bring Mawi Asegnom to Tukwila Community for presentation to schools and community at large
- Provided funds to send Showalter Middle School Steel Band group to special performance
- Provided funds to send team to the state's Destination Imagination competition (comprised of students from Tukwila elementary schools)
- Provide funds for summer school students reading enrichment program
- Provided funds for community summer band program
